Abstract

This study looks at how the online mainstream media, bangkapos.com, constructs gender reality into news coverage, in this case female celebrity news headlines. The method used is critical discourse analysis from Sara Mills. The results showed that bangkapos.com made women the object of news coverage. The position of the news subject displayed by bangkapos.com is Indonesian netizens, namely the majority of male netizens who comment on female celebrities' social media accounts. News headlines are also gender biased such as demeaning, marginalizing, harassing and even exploiting women in the form of reporting such as narrating women's body parts through portraits shared by celebrities on their social media accounts and even cases that have happened to famous celebrities. Bangkapos.com also violates the code of ethics articles 4 and 8. In terms of balanced news and does not mix facts and opinions, bangkapos.com does not conduct direct interviews with the object of the news but takes netizen comments from social media accounts of female celebrities so that the news seems only profit from the media.
