Abstract

This research focuses on the implementation of the storytelling method in improving the speaking skills of children aged 5-6 years in PAUD Melati, Sinar Sari Village, Kelapa District, where some still cannot speak fluently when telling stories. When the children were asked by the teacher to tell a story, which was shown by the teacher together, almost all the children could tell the story and speak fluently. However, when one by one they were asked to tell stories in front of the class, it turned out that there were still many children who were still confused about telling stories and speaking. This type of research is categorized as field research (field research) while the research method is descriptive qualitative with research subjects being 6 children aged 5-6 years. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews and documentation, while the data analysis techniques used were data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of this research show that the steps for implementing the storytelling method in improving the speaking skills of children aged 5-6 years in PAUD Melati, Sinar Sari Village, Kelapa District consist of several stages, namely: a. The planning stage, which consists of understanding the PAUD program, compiling weekly activity units, RPPM and compiling daily RPPH activities. b. Implementation stage, which consists of the teacher determining the theme, the teacher preparing media, picture story books, the teacher arranging sitting positions, teaching storytelling according to pictures, distributing picture story books, providing activities to children. c. The evaluation stage consists of a scale of developmental achievements, anecdotal notes, work results. The results of this research are a) Children are able to answer more complex questions from the teacher about the content of the story; b) Children are able to name groups of pictures that have the same sound; c) Children have more words to express ideas to other people; d) Children can continue some of the stories/tales that have been heard or told; and e) Children are able to show understanding of the concepts in story books.
